Soccer Makes History, Advances to Quarterfinals

The boys’ varsity soccer team ended their historic playoff run with a 3-0 loss against Boerne Champion HS in the Regional Quarterfinals.

“Boerne had lots of energy. They passed the ball around more and possessed it,” senior caption Rand Fredrickson said.

But that’s not to say we didn’t fight back. Boerne scored two early goals in the second half but were cut off and were only able to score one remaining goal in the second half.

“We played hard. They were just the better team that day,” Fredrickson said.

This was the Varsity boys soccer first year at making it to the quarterfinals and it’s clear to see that Coach Aldrich worked hard with the boys to get them where they needed to be. The boys showed dedication and the ability to work hard in order to make it as far as they did this year.

“The game meant everything to us. Unfortunately, we didn’t go in with the right mentality and our bodies were drained from the ride up there,” senior captain Keller Wylie said.

Coach Aldrich was still proud of the boys and knew that there was reason to celebrate, even in wake of the loss.

“I’m happy we made it so far but kind of sad that we didn’t make it as far as we could have. We expected to make it to play offs for sure, so making fifth round was an awesome achievement. I definitely have no regrets,” senior Drew Golden said.
