Chocolate can be traced back to the Mayan, Aztec and Toltec people, who used the bean to create a beverage. The Mayan people believed chocolate was sacred and often buried people with it. It was known as the food of the gods. It has been centuries since then, and chocolate has increased in prominence globally. As such, February is celebrated internationally as Chocolate Month.

According to a survey of thirty students, dark chocolate is the most popular type of chocolate at Vandegrift.
