Web series of the Month: Superfruit

Kelly Rosenblatt, Editor in Chief

My chronic addiction to YouTube has been deepened this month by the hilarious vlog duo Superfruit. Members of popular a cappella group Pentatonix, Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying created their YouTube channel a little over eight months ago and since then have racked up over 400,000 subscribers.

In their videos, the duo talks about everything pop-culture and keeps up with YouTube trends and tags such as the Boyfriend Tag, the Photo Booth Challenge and the Tin-Can Challenge. However, Grassi and Hoying’s commentaries are what set them apart from other vloggers on YouTube.

Both Grassi and Hoying possess the ability to come up with witty commentary and they are constantly playing off of each other’s humor and randomly singing their feelings. Their latest video is a commentary on Beyoncé and her talent for performing. As musicians, Grassi and Hoying always include their favorite song of the week at the end of their videos, giving viewers a chance to experience new music and promoting fellow musicians simultaneously. Grassi and Hoying also promote other YouTubers’ channels by featuring guest YouTubers in their videos. Youtubers such as Grace Helbig (dailygrace) and Tyler Oakley (tyleroakley) have been featured on Superfruit for interviews and fan-supplemented Twitter Q&As.

Overall, the channel is an uplifting mish-mash of pop-culture and improvised commentary that will have you laughing until your abs hurt.
