New Beginning for Cross Country Captains

Seniors Micah Ruble and Sydney Prucha are the new captains for cross country.  The girl’s cross country team has gone to state two years in a row and are hoping to accomplish another year in the state competition.

“I think our captain is really nice, she’s been doing cross country for four years, she runs a whole lot so she’s more knowledgeable to help the team.” junior runner Breanna Vann said.

With harder workouts, Kevin Helm is able to find the strong and weak areas that the team can work on. The team has grown this year, giving the team more room to bond and get to know each other better than they have in past years.

The captains this year have a tradition to keep up speed in order to win races, and are excited to end their senior year as the leaders of cross country.

“I have to make sure everybody is putting in the work to be successful with our team,” Prucha said. “I schedule outside UIL practice and work with our coach to make sure all relations are good.”

Ruble has been on the cross country team for three years so far and is on his fourth year. The boy’s cross country team finished in fifth place last year, not being able to make it to state.

“It’s pretty cool to get to be a leader on the team,” Ruble said. “But at the same time it’s a little more time consuming, because we have to meet with the coach and staff.”

The captains don’t plan on continuing cross country during college, but plan to make the best of this year.
