Five Things You Didn’t Know About Homecoming Mums

    1)      Before the eighties mums were real chrysanthemums with a few ribbons attached. During the ‘80s, mums went from real flowers to silk flowers, which allowed people to decorate their mum more.

    2)      Today mums can include flashing lights and iPod connections for music. This creates a better audio and visual effect.

    3)      Mums were started in Texas. However people in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana wear mums on homecoming too.

    4)        In the early 2000’s most mums were bought premade at a flower shop or mum making store.  Around 2005 making your own mum became popular.

    5)      Mums were first started in the 1930’s to indicate social status among teenage girls at homecoming games.
