Division one colleges have a lot to look forward to after senior Christian Okerholm and sophomore Brayden Buchanan recently announced their commitments. With Okerholm playing at Georgia Tech and Buchanan at Baylor, the two have a promising future ahead of them.

“My parents have always been my biggest supporters,” Buchanan said. “They have spent so much time and money on getting me to practices, lessons, and tournaments across the country as well as paying for equipment, flights and more.”

Okerholm will be out in Atlanta, Georgia playing baseball and getting his college education in business at Georgia Tech by the time fall comes around.

“The recruitment staff was very personable, they were extremely welcoming and nice, they made me feel at home,” Okerholm said. “On my visit, with just my dad and I, the coaches took me to the basketball stadium and we shot around which I thought was really cool.”

This season will be Okerholm’s last here at Vandegrift. He has been playing the game since he was six years old, when his parents encouraged him to try it for fun.

“My parents have always been my biggest fans,” Okerholm said. “My dad always pushes me, so that I can become a better player.”

Both Buchanan and Okerholm have wanted to play at the next level since they were young, and with the opportunity presenting itself, they are ready to begin the next chapter. But first, they have to get through this season.

“I’m super pumped for this season, we have such a great team and coaching staff,” Buchanan said. “I can’t wait to go win a bunch of games and bring a State Championship back to Vandegrift.”
