The Viper football team took home its first district win against Dripping Springs last Friday. The final score ended up at 31 to 21 in Vandergrift’s favor.
“The team played really well all around. The offense did awesome running the ball and the defense played great giving up very few points.” Senior, Jordan Sonnier said. “It was a great first district win of the season.”
After a big win, the vipers have yet another district game coming up Thursday against Leander. Leander is currently ranked 31 in the state and is bringing some stiff competition to Monroe Stadium. A shortened practice week is one of the hurdles the Vipers must overcome to beat the Lions this week. Coming off of a victory last week, the team is all confident that they can pull out another win this week.
“As long as we execute our game plan, we’ll do great.” sophomore Jamie Hudson said.
In support of breast cancer awareness, the game’s theme is pink out. Students are urged to to buy pink out shirts in the cafeteria and wear pink to the game. October is breast cancer awareness month and this is the vipers way of showing their support for the women and families impacted by cancer.
“I think it is important because it hit so close to home with Mark Giles and everyone is effected by breast cancer, ” Defensive secondary coach Judd Jackson said.
In case you can’t make it to the game this Thursday, the game will be televised KBVO Live. Next week, Vandegrift will be playing Marble Falls at Marble Falls.
