A Bittersweet Senior Night

Senior night had a bittersweet end on October 23rd to the end of their season. Senior volleyball players played against Hendrickson on their home court and won the title of district champs by the end of the night. However, the highlight of the night was the team’s celebration after the game, where family members and friends congratulated some of Vandy’s future graduates on their win.

“The fact that all the seniors played together was really fun,” senior Adriana Santiago said. “Knowing that, that was one of the last home games we were going to play together was sad for us too,” senior Addi Yeats added.

There was a video playing after the game to recognize all senior team members who have grown with the team over the years. The girls felt that these moments were not only sad, knowing that this era of their lives would be ending, but also rewarding.

“It’s a bittersweet moment,” senior Maddy Beck said. “I’ll miss playing volleyball at Vandegrift but it’s also exciting because I get to go to college and do different things that I’ve never been able to do before.”

Throughout the season the seniors on the Vandegrift volleyball team have worked hard to improve their skills and advance in their division.

“I am incredibly proud of my seniors,” coach Melissa Southall said. ”These girls came into every practice prepared to compete and challenge their teammates. I can confidently say, each senior ended this season better than when they came in August first.”
