The latest college commit for Vandegrift is senior Justin Moore. He committed to play baseball at Stanford University on March 30.

“I was ecstatic when I found out I got in,” Moore said. “Ever since I was a little kid, Stanford has been my dream school, and to get the opportunity to also play baseball there is just incredible. So when I got my acceptance letter from Stanford, there was no hesitation to commit.”

Moore’s coaches played significant roles in his process in committing to the university.

“Coach Luke Smith and Coach James Ellison from the Austin Wings Organization played key roles in helping me reach out,” Moore said. “ Coach McGee also helped a lot by not only talking to Stanford but also giving me the opportunity to play at VHS.”

Moore has played three years of varsity baseball, as well as two years of varsity football and three years of varsity basketball.

“I love football and basketball but I didn’t get any offers for basketball and only a few small offers for football,” Moore said. “Baseball has always been my favorite sport so it definitely was an easy choice.

After five months of communication Stanford gave Moore a preferred walk on spot.

“I was in contact with their staff for about five months,” Moore said. “I made HUDL.com  highlight videos to send them as well as some videos of me playing over the summer.”

Stanford is in the Pacific-12 Conference. Moore plans to get better over the summer to give himself a better chance to succeed.

“This summer I am definitely going to focus on hitting the weight room and getting stronger,” Moore said. “I need to put on a lot of weight and muscle before next fall. I am also going to continue to practice and improve the areas of my game that I feel I need to improve upon.”
