Five Ways to Get Your Individual Hours for NHS

NHS hours are due at the end of the semester, and if you don’t turn them in, you’ll have to do more hours next year. Here are some ways to get your individual hours this weekend:

1. Mobile Loaves and Fishes : From 4:00 to 6:00 everyday at St. Thomas Moore Church, people make sack lunches that are then distributed to the homeless all over austin by food trucks.  Students can help out with preparing the food truck or they can help hand out sandwiches.  To participate, contact Jim Lydon at (512) 550-8999 or at [email protected].

2. Lake Travis Library: Students can help by shelving books, organizing files or reading to kids. Volunteer slots come in three hour increments, so this is an easy way to knock out all your individual hours at once. Stop by Lake Travis Library to pick up an application.

3. Austin Pets Alive: Students can help by playing with dogs, cleaning cages and filing. To volunteer, you must submit an online application and go to an orientation. The next orientation is this saturday at Town Lake Animal Center.

4. Capital Area Food Bank of Texas: From 9:00 am – 4:00 pm every saturday, students can help by sorting canned food donations. Volunteers must register online at http://www.austinfoodbank.org/how-to-help/volunteer.html.

5. Lake Travis Regional Medical Center: Volunteers are needed to staff reception areas on the weekends. Students can also assist in filing and data entry. Contact [email protected] or go here (http://www.lakewayregional.com/careers/volunteers/ ) for more information .
