This year Vandegrift had three art students that placed for state in the VASE competition on April 4 and 5 at Bryan High School. Seniors Jasmine Sundar, Jonathan Gonzalez and junior Elaina Berman have moved on to the next level.

“I had no idea I was going to move on,” Jonathan Gonzalez said. “It was a very rewarding experience and feeling.”

The pieces entered in VASE are placed into different catagories based on how many art credits you have. You can enter with any type of art that you wish such as photography, drawings, paintings, and ceramics.

“Not only does this competition teach me to be a better-rounded artist, it is also a fun experience where I can meet other artists of many different trades,” Jasmine Sundar said.

The competitors go through a one on one interview with a judge and their art work is given a rating from one to four, four being the best. All people who receive a four move onto the second round where their art work will be displayed for a panel of judges.

“I enjoy putting my art out there. It’s a fun and motivating experience,” Eliana Burman said.
