Boys varsity wins district track title, girls come in third

The varsity boys won the district title in track while the girls team finished third in the 25-6A district meet hosted at Vandegrift Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 3200m run kicked off the first day of the district track meet with state champion senior Kevin Sanchez repeating as district champion and the Vipers taking all podium spots with junior Dylan Schieffelin and sophomore Hudson Haley rounding out silver and bronze. The boys cross country team finished second at state in the fall. On the girls side, Caitlin Garrett qualified for area in the third place spot.

Then, the field events began Tuesday as both the boys and girls competed to see who would finish in the top three and advance to the area meet. Senior Nico Czerwinski won the triple jump with a 36.075 distance – a personal record, while junior Brycen Carter advanced in the high jump with a second place finish and freshman Thomas Buechler finished third.  Junior Miles Coleman won the long jump with a personal record and USA Top 10 23 feet 11.75  inches. Junior Blake Frazier won the discus and shot put with junior Porter Eudy coming in second in discus and junior Jacob Henry third in shot put. Senior Ashlea Klam and junior Emma Clark took second and third in discus with Klam also runner up in shot put. Freshman Jenna Chavez placed second in high jump, while Brycen Cater and Thomas Buechler placed second and third. Freshman Zachary Koenig placed third in pole vault.

In the running finals Wednesday after school, multiple Vipers qualified for the area meet. District champion senior Ty Smedes won the 100 m dash and 200m.  Junior Miles Coleman finished second in the 100m while junior Landon Kempema placed third in the 400m. Freshman Elizabeth Mistacchia placed second in the 300m hurdles with junior Brooke Ibarguen narrowly missing the podium in fourth.

Of note, the JV girls won their district meet with the boys coming in second while the freshman girls placed third and the boys second.
