The Varsity team finishes the season by placing second at state

The Varsity tennis team traveled to College Station this week to compete for the State Title. The competition took place on Wednesday and Thursday. The team ended the season by winning second place at the competition.

“We played all out and played to win for each other,” senior tennis player Danielle Cuteri said. “We played like a family.”

The team competed in Semi-Finals on Wednesday and Finals on Thursday at 11:30am. They competed against other 5A teams, and beat their competitor, Texas A&M Consolidated. The team then advanced to US finals and won their matches with two other competitors, Alamo Heights and Boerne high schools.

“The most memorable part of the season for me was beating Boerne and Alamo Heights,” senior tennis player Tyler Duncum said. “We performed as well as we could, and we cheered hard for every teammate, ”

Prior to area, the team had not lost a single match out of a total of 133 matches played. They became the Regional Champions on Oct. 30 and while doing so they set the record for the district.

“We didn’t get the results we wanted,” junior tennis player Chris McKenzie said. “but I’m proud of the team and we we did a good job.”
