Volleyball is coming back to hopefully make it to state this year. They had a game last Friday against Seguin and won with 3-1. This is the second game they won. Their last scoring game was 2-1, on August 15. This year is a big year for varsity volleyball. It’s the first time in three years that they made it to third round and won against Cedar Park. This could potentially be their year to go to regionals.

“We want to make it past third round, well obviously we want to make it as far as possible,” the senior varsity volleyball captain said Alexis Lopez “We’ve never made it past second round before, so I know that’s a personal goal I’ve had since my freshman year, and we would potentially make history doing that.”

After beating Seguin in the playoffs, they will play in third round against Cedar Park. This will allow them to compete in Corpus Christi against the number one team ranked in state, which is Dripping Springs. This game could bring them to regional’s if they beat Dripping Springs during the competition.

“ We beat Cedar Park pretty badly in three rounds, we are a consistent team which is good,” senior varsity volleyball captain Shelby Buterbaugh said

A prior game was played against Cedar Park on September 22nd with an unfortunate loss of 1-3, but  were able to make a comeback October 16th with a slaughter of 3-0. The next game will be against Cedar Park this Tuesday, with a hope of winning to go through to state championships.

“I think one of the highest points we’ve had all season is beating Cedar Park. The lowest was probably losing to Cedar Park during the first round, so we kinda bounce back from that,” Lopez said “The first round we were too cocky to confident, we’re ranked really high in the state, so we had nothing to worry about, and they came in beating us in four, but coming in second round it definitely put us in check after that. We can’t be that cocky team, we have to actually play.”

While the team is working very hard to make regional’s and state, they will also be competing against many teams this year. They will be competing against Georgetown, Vista Ridge, Eastview, Marble Falls and Leander.

“Our long term goal is basically that we want to go to state,” Buterbaugh said
