The tennis team won their regional meet last Friday and became the 2015 Regional Champions. They will move on to the state match on Nov. 11-12 at the tennis center for Texas A&M University. This is the first time that the Vandegrift tennis team has advanced to state.

After winning their first round against Edcouch-Elsa High School 10-0, the team continued to win against the 2014 Regional Champions Boerne-Champion High School 10-1 and the 2013 champions Alamo Heights High School.

“The team fought hard and beat our rival,” assistant tennis coach Danielle Bevan said “It was a very exciting weekend and they are so pumped to go to state.”

When the team advanced to state, they set the district record against the teams in LISD. They have advanced to the semi-finals and will play one match on Wednesday and Thursday of next week.

“Our team has performed really well,” tennis player Tyler Duncam said. “We all build each other up, which helps us come out on top.”
