The girls viper swim team took home gold for the second year in a row. The team went to the state swim meet and game back with three gold medals.

“Both girls and boys did amazing,” head coach Kim Davies said. “The boys team got a silver medal in the 200 free relay, and the girls team received gold medals in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. And were overall state champions.”

This is the second year that the girls relay team has taken home gold in a relay.

“We had a pretty good lead going in to the last lap, but the last lap the girl was putting up a really good fight,” freshman Maddie Ibrahim said. “But we kept up our lead and won, by a second.”

The team had calculated before the state meet that if they kept up their times and swam like have they had been in the previous meets, that they would take home the gold overall.

“We were all hoping that we were going to win overall, but we weren’t sure if our predictions were correct,” senior Kendall Shields said.

The girls team won by 60 points.

“Everyone was super excited, the whole entire team jumped in to the pool. Everyone was just so happy and proud of what we had just done. Coach Bauer, who is five months pregnant, even did a front flip into the pool,” Shields said.
