Viper hoops to second round of playoffs

Viper boys basketball will advance to the second round of playoffs after beating Reagan High School 71-52 on Tuesday. They will play Sam Houston High School at New Braunfels High School on Friday. Tip off time is TBA, but will happen between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m.

“Friday’s game will be much closer as each round the cream rises to the top. Sam Houston is a very athletic and well coached team. They will be a tough test come Friday night,” head coach Cliff Ellis said.

This is the third time that boys’ basketball have advanced to playoffs in school history. This is the first season the team has made it past the first round.

“I’ve been on varsity for three years and a lot of young guys have stepped up this season,” shooting guard Davis Florence said. “I think everybody did their part to get a win. The crowd was really good which helped us out as well.”

In practice, the team has been working on shooting as well as watching film defensive scout preparations.

“We had a normal practice today as well as watching a little film. From what we watched of the other team they are a lot better than the last and we’ll need to work on our defense,” center Drayton Whiteside said.

All tickets for Friday’s game will be sold at the door for $5 for adults and $3 for students. Follow @VIPERHOOPS on Twitter for more basketball information.
