The pre-season for Viper Volleyball has come to an end and they are officially competing in their district competition. The girls have been practicing since August and have been participating in tournaments and scrimmages all around the city for the past few weeks. Vandegrift will be competing in what has been said to be the most competitive district in the state of Texas. The season will continue in the district competition up until mid-October depending on whether or not they make play offs.

“In the summer we had two-a-day practices, so we practiced three hours in the morning and then three hours again in the afternoon. It has been a lot of work but it has helped us get prepared physically to compete against the other teams in the district,” senior and captain of the varsity girls team Bryn Recker said.

The girls practiced for the entire month of August for six hours a day and have been practicing every day after school to prepare.

“Practicing that much has really helped the team bond and everyone has really gotten to know one another, I am really excited to see where the team will go,” Recker said.

The Vipers next game will be against Vista Ridge High School on Wednesday at 5:30 for freshman and JV and 6:30 for varsity and Friday at home against Georgetown East View at 5:30 for JV and freshman and 6:30 for varsity.

“During districts we will be playing other schools in LISD such as Cedar Park and Vista Ridge, they are our biggest rivals so I am really excited to see how the next few weeks play out,” senior Maria Krychniak said.
