The track meet held at Vandegrift this past Thursday and Friday was an overall success. Ten schools from all over the district came to compete, including Leander, Cedar Park, Westwood, Dripping Springs, Vista Ridge, and Reagan high schools.
The varsity team ran well, scoring second for the girls in all events, including the triple, long, and high jump, as well as the shot put and discus, as well as 3200 Meter Run, 800 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter. The varsity boys had success as well, scoring first in all events, including the 800, meter relay, and the 110 hurdles.
“The varsity boys won the first meet championship in school history,” track coach, Scott Hermes said.
Junior varsity was not far behind, the girls scoring second and the boys scoring fifth in all events. The pattern for session three on Friday was similar to Thursday. Junior varsity scored well, with second in all events throughout the meet, with the boys alternating scores between fifth and first for most of the meet.
“It was a successful night on the track,” Hermes said.
