Flicks of the summer

Lauren Conroy, Staff Writer

In Texas, the heat of the summer can sometimes be overwhelming. There is nothing like a dark, cool movie theater to relieve the heat of the day. And the best part? The summertime is notorious for the release of fun, light-hearted movies that everyone can enjoy. Below, I have cataloged a few to look forward to this year:

Aloha (release date: May 29)

Rachel McAdams, Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, John Krasinski; need I say more! I am literally counting down the days to see this flick. In the movie, Cooper plays a military contractor returning to the site of his biggest career accomplishment, Hawaii. While there he finds himself torn between a long-lost love from his past and the tough Air Force watchdog of his present. The plot has all the components of a rom-com you’ll want to see again and again.

Spy (release date: June 5)

In this upcoming comedy, Melissa McCarthy plays a deskbound CIA analyst turned undercover special agent. When her partner mysteriously goes missing, her character, Susan, must infiltrate a deadly arms dealer to rescue him. It becomes her responsibility to literally save the world from a global disaster. McCarthy is known for her wide range of characters. Susan Cooper, CIA agent is sure to be another hilarious addition to her repertoire.

Inside Out (release date: June 19)

Who doesn’t love a good Pixar movie? This sweet story follows the life of a little girl named Riley. When she is forced to move across the country and transfer to an all new school, her emotions go crazy (literally). The entire movie is about Riley’s anger, fear, disgust, joy and sadness emotions who in themselves are characters. Their actions control Riley and they must stabilize themselves in order for her to properly adjust to her new life.

Pitch Perfect 2 (release date: May 15)

If this movie is anything like the first one, it will be a for-sure hit. Rebel Wilson’s humorous one-liners and  Anna Kendrick’s hilarious sass make for the the perfect comedic pair. In this sequel, the Bellas compete in an International competition to clear their name after an embarrassing national meltdown. New and old rivals, the aca-mazing friendships and songs that will be stuck in your head for days are sure to make this movie as popular as the first.
