Actors, playwrights and managers are hard at work on their last production of the school year. The department is set to put on “Of Poems, Youth and Spring” by John Logan in May.

“I’m glad I have the chance to work with the new director and I’m very excited to put on the play for the school,” junior and lead Isabela Spielman said.

The play is centered around a young high school couple, Toby,  played by Jonathan Howard and Jackson Smith and Susan, played by Cassie Heath and Isabela Spielman. The production portrays each season that they are together. The tale is a light-hearted love story of two teenageers as they go through the year. Alonso is planning on incorporating dancing and movement into the story to make the stage have the feel of a typical high school.

“Both the cast and crew are hard at work memorizing lines and blocking stage movement on the stage.”  director Jon Alonzo said. “Many of the cast are new to using dance on stage, but are working hard to learn transitions.”

The cast and crew started preparing the set and story, working Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school and during their Theatre and Theatre Tech classes each day.

“I am the director’s right hand man, and how the real shows go kind of falls on me.” Stage manager Sophia Alaniz said. “The play is coming together very well, and we have been working hard on it to make it as awesome as possible.”

The play is to open April 30, and run through May 2. There will be two 7 p.m. showings on April 30 and May 1, and a 2 p.m. showing on May 2.
