Interact Club is currently collecting jeans for homeless kids and teens in the Austin area through the Teens for Jeans drive. Boxes are by Ms. Gillmett’s room in the English wing. All are welcome to donate through the end of the month.

“I think it’s a great and easy way to recycle something to benefit people that need it.” Interact President senior Kristina Nguyen said. “Jeans are something that many people don’t often think about everyday, and it’s easy to forget that something as small as jeans could have a huge impact on someone else. Interact Club strives to give back to the community and this is a project that we can involve the whole school in.”

Teens for Jeans is a national campaign that partnered with Aéropostale and DoSomething.org, a non-profit organization for teens. Teens for Jeans encourages young people across the country to run a jean drive in their school or community to help provide clothing for youth experiencing homelessness. Over a million young people experience homelessness in the United States every year and one of the most requested items that young people in homeless shelters ask for is a pair of jeans.

“Jeans are comfort clothes for many of us, and for teenagers who live in often turbulent conditions, having a pair of jeans can offer a great sense of normality,” said vice Interact president and drive organizer senior Avni Shah. “I hope that every pair of jeans donated will help someone in need find comfort.”
