The FFA chapter participated in a district-level Leadership Development competition (LED) on Nov. 11. The Greenhand Quiz team won second overall, and students that placed first or second in their event moved on to the area competition, which took place on Wednesday in Blanco.

“LED’s are a great way for kids who don’t have time to raise animals to get involved in FFA. It has something for everyone,” sophomore FFA Vice President Julia Tate said.

The team was made of up several FFA members, all competing for different sections of the event. The Greenhand quiz team, including senior Jacob Rickman, junior Lila Ross, senior Justine Lasnier and junior Ellie Simpson, won fifth place overall. The public relations team, consisting of sophomores Julia Tate, Tanner Tittle and Trevor Gotcher and senior Spencer Brent, placed ninth overall. Junior Lauren McCool placed third in Junior Creed Speaking and senior Carly Cox placed eighth in Senior Creed Speaking.

”Even though our junior quiz team did not advance to state competition, I am extremely proud of these individuals for advancing to the area level,” FFA advisor Magan Escamilla said.
