Seven members of the boys tennis team were all asked, “What professional player do you model your game after and why?”
Here are the responses:
Sophomore Brody Blackwell — “I probably model my game after [Novak] Djokovic. His physical ability is unbelievable and he is a great competitor.”
Sophomore Pedro Deboni — “[I try to resemble my game after] Gustavo Kuerten because he is the professional player that I’ve known personally since I lived in Brazil a couple years back. I just love how he plays, and I try my best to do good.”
Sophomore Case Macphie — “I model my game after my dad (Brian Macphie), just because I inherited some of what he can do and we both have the same play style, and we’re both good at doubles, so that’s kind of our thing.”
Junior William Mattox — “I would go Ben Shelton, [because he has a] big serve and [he likes] going to the net a bunch.”
Junior Sameer Prekash — “[I look up to] Djokovic because he’s kind of old in the tennis realm, just like me. I’m the unc of JV tennis, so we kind of model our games after each other.”
Senior Quinn Steen — “I’d say I look up to Novak Djokovic. I think he’s just an inspiration. He’s statistically the best player of all time and he just keeps trying to win every single time. I just want to be like him some day.”
Junior Shanyu Suraparaju — “I’d say I try to be like [Roger] Federer because he’s pretty elegant. I like playing a variety of shots like him.”
