The swim team begins their season on Sep. 25 at the Round Rock Aquatic Center. This marks the first of 10 meets leading up to the district meet in February.
“I’m super excited for our first meet, and Coach Felix has been doing a great job making sure we’re ready to go,” sophomore William Garrett said. “We’ve been doing a lot of off-the-blocks work, a lot of fast sprint workouts, as well as a lot of long distance work. Coach has been helping out some of the newer swimmers to get their technique right, and for the veterans, he’s just been pushing us harder, making sure we’re ready to go come race day.”
Although Sep. 25 is the first official meet, the team had an intersquad meet at Bella Mar Pool on Aug. 16. This meet was for more fun than competitive purposes, as none of the times were taken into account. The swimmers were divided into two teams: Black and Silver. The coaches picked the races for each swimmer, and winners earned points for their team.
“I thought it was good to get a first meet in to start the season so that we can be prepared for when the actual season starts and for our bigger meets,” sophomore Decker Coffey said. “I think it could help make sure we start the season strong.”
Last year, the team had a strong season with the girls team winning district and placing seventh in state, and the boys placing second in district and third at state.
“We have a whole new set of swimmers that are really contributing to the team dynamic,” senior William Orth said. “We’re showing up every morning and working real hard to get that title.”
