On June 27, New Zealand pop artist Lorde released her fourth studio album titled “Virgin.” This album exemplifies the ways she changes throughout adolescence and adulthood. Each of her albums vary quite a bit in tone, themes, and production. They each represent an important period of her life. “Pure Heroine” represents her teenage innocence, the disillusionment of society and its structures, her want of simplistic love, and her aversion towards the status-quo. “Melodrama” has a more serious and drastic tone, portraying the highs, lows, and overall complexity of young adult life. “Solar Power” created a very laid-back and reflective mood, with Lorde passing easy judgement over things and sharing life lessons. “Virgin” is by far her deepest and most introspective album, exploring Lorde’s personal evolution, acceptance of herself, and her weaknesses turned strengths.
