Trunk or Treat will occur in the front parking lot on Oct. 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Caitlin Sawyer, head coach of girls soccer, and the team have worked together with other athletic programs to take on the responsibilities for this pre-Halloween event. The money fundraised will go to the participating athletic programs.
“I think this is the best community event we put on during the year,” Sawyer said. “We have a huge turnout for the Homecoming parade to support all of our organizations in the community. In a way, Trunk or Treat is our way of creating a fun memory for them to say thank you.”
Trunk or Treat has been going on since 2010 when it was first hosted at the high school.
“Trunk or Treat is when a ton of cars from the school set up, and they all have candy and stuff in their trunk. Then, they give it out to all the kids,” sophomore soccer player Whitney Aubrey said. “It’s kind of like trick or treating, but it’s just for cars.”
At Trunk or Treat, there will be activities for all ages including face painting, a cake walk, guessing game booths, pumpkin painting stations, and a costume contest along with all the different trunks.
“We have three different categories for the costume contest, and it’s Scariest Costume, Most Creative Costume, and Funniest Costume,” senior soccer player Stella McCutcheon said. “We’re going to have three judges who decide the three people winning each category.”
The soccer team divided up into groups to put on the event with each group taking one activity to plan.
“My group is supposed to be handling the sponsorships,” freshman soccer player Keerti Ramachandran said. “We’re reaching out and seeing if any companies want to come and bring their food trucks or have stands.”
So far, there will be Kona Ice, a popsicle stand, Tom’s Coffee, Top Taco, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe. This doesn’t include the fire truck appearance made every year.
“It’s important that we keep doing this because it’s a great fundraising opportunity,” freshman soccer player Zoey Jones said. “It’s great to provide entertainment for our young community.”
