The choir performed its annual fall concert at Austin Baptist Church on Oct. 6. They started the year under new head director Colby Schulz.
“He pushes us in all the right ways,” sophomore Assistant House Leader, Darya Daneshgar, said. “[This concert] shows where we are, and what we have the potential to be.”
At the concert, the chamber choir performed “Exultate” by Lodovico Grossi da Viadana and “Nature Boy” by Eden Ahbez. Senior Service and Library Lead, Fidan Akparli, described “Exultate” as “all over the place,” but progressing into a unified chorus.
“Nature Boy,” performed a cappella, is a story of love and youth. Daneshgar is a chamber member and soloist in the song.
“Singing [my childhood song] in a choral setting is just amazing,” Daneshgar said.
The Chorale Tenor/Bass performed “Shine on Me” by Rollo Dilworth and “Do Not Leave Your Cares at the Door” by Elizabeth Alexander.
“[Do Not Leave Your Cares at the Door] is very high energy,” junior Thomas Fowler said. “We have a bunch of movement, and it’s also a very happy song.”
The Chorale Treble performed “Fy Upon You, Fy!” by Walter Cecil Macfarren, featuring pulsing rhythms and dramatic crescendos. The full chorale came together to perform “I’ll Be on My Way” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, which also served as the title of the concert.
“Both of them feel a little bit chaotic in a way, but then they come together as one to show how the choir can do both at the same time,” Akparli said. “We’re moving on to a different phase of our lives — just like the Vandegrift choir is moving on because we lost a director.”
