All freshman students that currently have school provided laptops will be given the opportunity to keep the laptops over the summer. Payment is due on May 25 to the link provided on the Vandegrift website. Pay here.

“They [mLISD] wanted to give the students the opportunity to use their technology over the summer for continued studies,” technology support specialist Steve Cantrell said. “If they were doing summer school and an ability to keep in touch with their peers on a campus level.”

The payment is $70, which will cover keeping the laptops over the summer and next year’s cost. There is also a scholarship options, but only for students who have free or reduced lunches.

“I think the scholarship is great,” librarian Zandra Lopez said “All students should have the opportunity to have the laptops and costs should not be a reason for them to not have them.”

If students choose to not keep their laptops over the summer students must turn in their laptops on May 26-27 in the library.

“Next year if they keep their laptops they won’t have to worry about checking them in and then checking them out at the start of the school year,” Lopez said “Which would just make the whole process hassle free.”

The laptops intended use over the summer is school assignments because the laptops will still have the restrictions that the district implicates, but can students still use them for personal reasons.
“I feel like if I payed for the laptop I should be able to use it however I want,” freshmen Andrew Osorio said. “Not have a restriction on it. Either way keeping the laptops over the summer will still help with summer assignments.”
