In honor of National Red Ribbon Week, Student Council has decided to create a theme week. The designated week will be  Oct. 27 – 31.

“Red Ribbon Week often goes unnoticed by students. But this year, StuCo would really like to emphasize Red Ribbon Week to make it fun,” junior and secretary Ariana Engles said.

As school is not in session on Monday, the theme week will start on Tuesday. Themes include Decades Day on Tuesday, Tropical Day on Wednesday, Mix and Match Day on Thursday, and Dress as your favorite character day on Friday, which is also Halloween.

“I’m excited, we are trying to educate people through posters, announcements, and themes. It’s a good thing,” senior and president Madison Smith said.

Red Ribbon Week is a part of the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, to raise awareness for the issue of drug and alcohol abuse and help with drug prevention in the United States. The organization was founded in 1980 by parents and is now recognized nationwide. The group has over 100 partners.

“I think that the message this week sends is particularly important, and I really think that we’ll get through to a  few kids,” Engles said.
