Freshman Kyla Peeples, sophomore Adeline Carter and juniors Taylor Grikis and Emily McCollum advanced to the state meet. The regional track meet took place on April 27-29 in San Antonio and state is being held tonight and tomorrow in Myers Stadium at UT.

“It is always a fun event,” McCollum said. “It’s a tougher competition that you haven’t been able to compete against all year.”

Peeples will be competing in the high jump and Carter will be running in the 200m and 400m. Grikis, McCollum, Peeples and Carter will all run in the 4×400 relay.

“It will be interesting to see how we compare to a bigger high school,” McCollum. “If we continue to improve, we will be able to advance post-season.”

With each member trying to make it to state, the team was able to improve their performance while running for regionals.

“I am hoping to shed some time off of my last competition,” Carter said. “I definitely tried my hardest and was able to make it to state in all three events.”

The high jump will be at 3 p.m. with the 200m and 400m at 8:05 and 9:15 p.m. The relay will be held at the end of the day at 10:15 p.m.

“State is definitely going to be very challenging,” Peeples said. “Everyone’s going to be really nervous, but I think we’ll do well, if we just try our best.”
