Michael by Les Sins

The hit indie pop-funk fusion artist Chaz Bundick, aka Toro y Moi, released his second album under his dance project name, Les Sins, last week. With the success of his music in the indie pop world as Toro y Moi, it makes sense that his side projects are getting hype as well. Bundick’s style as a musician really shines through each song on this album. His fusion of electronic and funk music is perfectly complimented by his avid use of soft-synth to create tracks that are both fun to dance to and beautiful to just relax and listen to. The 11-track album is already receiving high praise from critics and music bloggers across the country. Some of the albums hits include tracks 4 and 5, “Why” (feat. Nate Salman) and “Bother” that have both been picked up and played by satellite radio stations such as Sirius XMU and Sirius Chill.

The album has a great balance of variety and cohesion. Bundick does a great job of mixing songs that complement each other without being repetitive. A huge contrast that is present in Bundick’s album is his juxtaposition of dark and light. Tracks such as “Why” and “Sticky” exude a happier, lighter mood from the listener while “Drop” and “Call” are definitely darker tracks with a slightly deeper bass and harsher use of synth.

Bundick’s success as both Toro y Moi and Les Sins is something that the University of South Carolina graphic design graduate has stated in interviews to be like a dream come true. Bundick has a very innovative sound that is underscored in this album and is becoming increasingly popular among the indie pop community around the world. Bundick has collaborated with several artists such as Chromeo and Tyler the Creator and has found success in both of his music projects over the past three years. Michael leaves indie pop enthusiasts craving more music from both of Bundick’s musical personas in the near future.
