Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Quick

Tell me a little about yourself…

“I am from Texas, and have lived and taught in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin.  Growing up half of the time on a ranch and half of the time in the city, I had the best of both worlds and to this day appreciate what each has to offer.  I love animals and have had many including unusual ones such as raccoons, deer, as well as dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, etc. As a child, my father would bring a pony or two to our home in the city for our birthdays. Kids loved our birthday parties! Although growing up, my sister and I were very different, my mother always made sure everything was equal between my sister and I, making sure neither felt left out inferior. So today, the warm, caring hearts of my parents live within me trying to inspire others, students in particular.”

What is a fun fact about yourself?

“I was heavily involved with theatre and acting for about 20 years.”

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

“I have taught grades 7-12 in a variety of areas including: English, journalism, psychology, sociology, and computer applications. I have been teaching for over 20 years. Becoming a teacher was a temporary plan to earn money to pay for law school. However, after a few years, I decided this was a better fit for me; I lacked the killer instinct to be a lawyer. All my work would have been pro bono. (free)”

What do you like most about teaching?

“I teach because of the students! Young minds are amazing, and being able to help students achieve and be their best fills my heart with happiness!”

What is your favorite thing about working at VHS?

“VHS is truly the best school ever! The faculty honestly cares about students, and it is a student centered school in which decisions are made based on how issues/events impact students. VHS promotes respect, integrity, and accountability. I thought teaching at Southlake Carroll ISD was the best place ever until I came here. VHS IS second to none!”
