Things to do in Austin at the start of summer

Jennifer Walker, Editor-in-Chief

It’s Summer! Wait-almost summer. I’m starting to plan out the beginning of my summer, and I wanted to share a few ideas of things to do with my classmates. Here’s a few events going on in Austin right after we get out of school.

ATX Television Festival

This is my favorite thing happening in June. Austin’s first ever television festival will be from June 8-11. Head downtown to see premieres of new shows, attend Q&A’s and panels, live music, social media events, and more! I saw on the schedule that there is going to be a Nashville panel on June 8, and I wouldn’t want to miss that.

Bubblepalooza 2017

If you go to this event, look for me, because I’m not missing out on the chance for a good instagram post! HEB is hosting Bubblepalooza 2017 at the Long Center on June 3 at 9 am, and the event is free. These bubble wands would be perfect to take with you.

First Friday Austin Flea at Quickie Pickie

This event is basically a huge flea market, taking place on June 2 from 4-8 pm. The market is going to be at Quickie Pickie on Cesar Chavez St. It’s free to go in, and you can find some really cool vintage items. Maybe you can find a new DIY project to keep you busy this summer!

Austin Symphony Orchestra’s Concert in the Park

Music lovers- this event is for you. The Austin Symphony Orchestra is featuring a different group of instruments in a concert every Sunday, starting June 4. Pull up a picnic blanket and enjoy a dinner outside. Each concert will take place at the Hartman Concert Park at the Long Center at 7:30 pm. See a complete concert schedule here.

Have a great summer!
