Students Express Individuality Through Music

Vandegrift High School is full of diversity, and that applies to personal music choices. Whether you’re on the bus or walking down the hall, you will find students listening to their iPods and music players.

“Music is a great way to express yourself,” sophomore Megan Hall said. Megan’s favorite artist is OneRepublic, who she listens to on her iPod.

“I own almost all of their albums,” she said. Her favorite song by OneRepublic is “All I Need”. “My other favorite songs include ‘Your Guardian Angel’ by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, ‘Thinking of You’ by Katy Perry, ‘Love Like Woe’ by The Ready Set, and my summer song: ‘Dynamite’ by Taio Cruz,” Megan said.

“I love to dance, so I like songs I can dance to,” Megan said. Her choices may not hold true of all music lovers, as in the case of sophomore Nicole Lita.

“My favorite artist is Bert McCracken. I love his band, The Used. My other favorite bands are Radiohead and Iwrestledabearonce,” Nicole said.

Charlotte Calvin, a sophomore, said she prefers Explosions in the Sky, an instrumental rock group.

“It’s like classical music except they play electric guitars and drums and stuff,” Charlotte said.

“My favorite song is definitely ‘Time Stops’ by Explosions in the Sky, and ‘Pogo’ by Digitalism,” Charlotte said.

Sophomore Toni Perez favors Avenged Sevenfold, an American rock band.

“I just went to their concert in Dallas,” said Toni. “It was awesome.”

Her favorite songs by Avenged Sevenfold include “Nightmare”, “Bat Country”, and “Welcome to the Family”.

These preferences show that while many Vandegrift students vary in their music selections, there is one huge similarity between them−they are all passionate about what they listen to.
