Maria Krychniak, Staff Writer

Dean Israelite’s Project Almanac is a thrilling movie that is about time travel and the repercussions that changing the past can have. This sci-fi movie just premiered recently and critics have been raving about this fast paced film.

Project Almanac revolves around teenage characters, the main character being David Raskin who is portrayed by actor Johnny Weston. David discovers and experiences time travel with his friends Quinn (Sam Lerner), Adam (Allen Evangelista), his sister Christina (Virginia Gardner) and his love interest Jessie (Sofia Black-D’Elia). The teens discover a mysterious box in the basement of David’s house and soon discover that in the box is the foundation of what makes time travel possible. The teens then design and engineer a machine that will let them time travel to whatever time they please, and so begins their epic journey of experiencing time travel.

Throughout the movie the characters travel to different time periods and different places, having fun and taking advantage of once in a lifetime opportunities along the way. Although traveling through time doesn’t seem to have any consequences at first, that all soon changes when they discover that they have altered significant events and are responsible for the demise of people. The teens work hard reverse the events that led to the changing of the future and hope to fix all that they had changed.

Not only was the storyline of Project Almanac thrilling, but the special effects and filming were exceptional. The special effects played a significant role throughout the entire film. Because Project Almanac involves time travel, the directors took on their own interpretation of what time travel looks like and utilized special effects in the movie to portray what their thought process was for time travel. The filming was also done in a non traditional way. The footage in the film is from a hand-held camera point of view, which makes sense since the teenagers are filming their experiments and experiences with time travel and also makes the audience feel more connected and engaged in the film.

Project Almanac is sure to interest those interested in sci-fi and thrillers, and is sure to draw audiences’ into the wild adventure of the teenagers and how they deal with time travel. I personally enjoyed the movie very much. Because of all the action, science, comedy and adventure, my attention never strayed and I was extremely intrigued by the concept time travel. The movie is good for all ages and anyone wanting to see a thrilling sci-fi movie are sure to enjoy themselves while watching this movie.
