Point Break movie review

Kate Murphy, Newspaper President

The movie was filmed all over the world from with over 12 locations, ranging from the United States to Venezuela and even the Swiss Alps. Point Break will have you feeling that you need to go travel the world as soon as you walk out of the theater.

The movie is about a group of thrill seeking criminals that perform a series of daredevil stunts to steal money and gems, only to give it away to the poor and less fortunate. A new FBI-in-training agent, Johnny Utah (Luke Brancey), is able to connect the dots and figure out that the group performing all of the heists. The criminals are trying to complete a series of life threatening events called the Ozaki 8. A prophecy states that if you complete all eight events then you are guaranteed to reach Nirvana. Utilizing his own special skills as a former extreme dirt biker, Utah infiltrates the gang of thieves after befriending their charismatic leader, Bodhi (Edgar Ramirez). As Johnny experiences the rush of their lifestyle, his superiors fear that his loyalties are being tested.

I enjoyed the movie and I thought that all of the locations in the movie were amazing. The Ozaki 8 was described well which was very helpful, because without a clear explanation I would have been very confused on why this group of people were doing of these crazy life threatening stunts. There was never any dull points in the movie as well; I was always on the edge of my seat wanting to see if they were able to achieve each task that they had to complete. The actors were also very good looking so that made the movie more fun to watch.

Even though the actors were good looking, that does not mean that the acting was great. The acting was subpar, but all the stunts and scenery I thought made up for it a little. I was a little confused on why Johnny Utah was an FBI agent after being an extreme sport athlete. It did start to make sense when he went undercover with Bodhi, but up until that point I was very confused.

So if I was going to give Point Break an overall rating I would give it 3 out of 5 stars. Although the acting was subpar, the actors were fun to look at and the stunts were pretty impressive, so overall I was never bored.
