Club Spotlight: Girl’s Soccer

An interview with Jen Hardy about the soccer program and what they are doing to prepare for the upcoming season.

How long has soccer been at Vandegrift?
This is our 5th season.

What is your favorite part about soccer?
My favorite part about soccer would be the girls and the big rivalry games.

What you do in soccer and what are some of your daily tasks for the sport?
Our daily tasks can include skill drills, weight room, conditioning, speed/agility, team concepts, game film review and studying hall.

What kind of person is soccer looking for and, what should potential members expect to learn?
I am looking for players with heart, a strong work ethic, knowledge of the game and a desire to succeed off the field. Competitive sports teach us so much more than the game itself.

 When does soccer meet?
Soccer meets every day during second and sixth periods in the off-season and also after school Monday through Friday from 4:10-5:30p.m, in season. We have games away games on Tuesday and home games on Fridays this year.

What is the environment like in soccer how do people interact with each other?
I like to believe our environment is inviting, family oriented and yet extremely competitive. I am very big on making sure my teams are a family, but also challenging each other.

What’s something that people may not know about girls’ soccer if they’re not in it?
I don’t think people realize how hard I push these girls every day and much work they put into to their success.

How do you think that the team is doing this season?
I think the team looks amazing this season. I feel like we have a good chance to go all the way this year.

How do you think that you will do against Cedar Park this Friday?
After our level of play verse Vista, I expect to beat Cedar Park by at least two goals!
