To show good sportsmanship at tonight’s football game, at 6:48 p.m. on the 50 yard line, the student council will give Odessa Permian’s student council a friendship basket.

“The theory is that the other student council will take the goodies to one of their meetings,” student council sponsor Amy Gallagher said. “And say these are on behalf of Vandegrift High school to wish us a good year.”

Senior body president, Claire Costilow and senior body vice president Carmella Quintos will make the exchange with the other senior president of Odessa Permian.

“I love to meet new people,” Costilow said. “This also means the start of the football season, which is my favorite time of the year.”

In past years, student council done this with a basket full of candies and treats.

“I’m happy the student council gets to show good sportsmanship and citizenship,” Quintos said.

The tradition has been going on for a while, but it’s fairly new for our school. Student Council will only do it with participating schools.

“It’s kind of an old tradition, some schools do it, some schools don’t,” principal Charlie Little said. “We have our student council check and if they want to do it, we do it.”
